History

Natural production conditions

If you look back on the history of the cooperative, you must emphasize first the good reputation, which the "Ardennes" seed potato already possessed between the two world wars in France and Belgium.

The rough and wet climate of the high "Ardennes" and the humus-rich slate residual soils form the natural basis for the good quality of the "Ardennes" seed potatoes. This area offers only very small possibilities for the virus transmission by plant-louses. The latter's prefer rather warm and protected situations.

Creation - Synplants

The "E´slecker Setzgrompere-genossenschaft" was officially established on October 2 , 1945 under the French name "Syndicat des Producteurs de Plants de Pommes de Terre", which is better known under the short form : "SYNPLANTS".

The purpose in according to the statutes of the cooperative is :
- The promotion of a perfect seed potatoes production.
- The storing and dressing of the produced potatoes and to commercialize them jointly.

Until 1963, the dressing of the plant potatoes was realised by the farmers themselves. Up to this time, the whole production was stored in the still existent warehouse of Clervaux.

In 1955, the first warehouse with office space for the administration was built. Further some major extensions were built in 1962, 1970, 1979, and 1989.

In 1990, a new warehouse was consecrated in Eselborn at 3 km (2 miles) from Clervaux with a storage capacity of 2.500 tonnes (crate storage) as well as a complete dressing station. This installation has been expanded in 1997 by a capacity of 5.000 tonnes.

Today, by the current modernization of the storage and dispatching halls as well as the dressing equipment, 16.000 to of seed potatoes can be stored, dressed and shipped annually under optimal conditions.
